ST. AUGUSTINE – The St. Augustine Art Association presents an immersive, family-friendly art exhibit from July 17 to August 31, 2025, inviting visitors to explore works illuminated only by flashlights and blacklights at 22 Marine Street.
Unlike traditional galleries, this exhibit turns art viewing into an exciting adventure. Visitors reveal layers of artwork with neon paints, glow-in-the-dark details, and hidden messages that only appear when illuminated by the provided lights.
Jennifer Flynt, Executive Director of the St. Augustine Art Association, shares, “Kids love it because they can see things that change as they move the flashlight around. It’s a great way for young audiences to experience art from a totally different perspective.” She adds, “the artwork is there and you get to choose what you see in the artwork. So the artists put it together and have what they hope the viewers see. It’s really up to the viewers how much they interact with each piece and what they see under the different lights. So it’s also a personal experience in that sense.”
The exhibit features a variety of mediums from local artists who embraced the challenge of creating pieces meant to be viewed in darkness. Many artists used neon and glow-in-the-dark paints, layering images so parts only reveal themselves under blacklight or flashlight, encouraging visitors to take their time and explore every corner of the gallery.
Families are welcome to visit Tuesdays through Sundays, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and all necessary flashlights and blacklights are provided. The exhibit also offers a perfect sensory experience for children, combining fun, learning, and creativity. A special award ceremony honoring juried artists will be held during the First Friday Art Walk on August 1 at 7 p.m., where visitors can celebrate the creativity and imagination showcased in the exhibit.
